With your understanding and mastery of algorithms, you will shed light on data to help public and private players make important decisions.
Program
During the first two years of studies at ENSAI, statistical engineering students and INSEE civil servant statisticians (attachés statisticiens stagiaires de l’Insee) follow the same curriculum. However, in the second semester of the 2nd year, statistical engineering students begin to choose classes in order to prepare for their 3rd year specialization.
1st year – Unify and consolidate knowledge

Learn to lead a descriptive study from a real database, carry out basic statistical models, assess different algorithm qualities and link contemporary economic problems to economic theory
2nd year – Broaden and deepen knowledge
Discover advanced statistical concepts and concrete applications
Take specialized classes in temporal databases, length, and economic data, Big Data, surveys… and complementary lessons in industrial economy, demographics, mobile technology
Carry out large projects in computer science and statistics
3rd year – Specialize
Major in one of the 6 specialties on offer: Advanced Statistical Engineering, Biostatistics, Data Modeling for Spatial Analysis and Health Economics, Data Scientist, Quantitative Marketing and Revenue Management, and Risk Management and Financial Engineering
Data Science & Advanced Statistical Engineering This specialization offers a large range of employment opportunities. ENSAI students will become skilled modeling experts in many fields of application such as quality/reliability in business, environmental predictions, and signal and image processing.
Data Science & Biostatistics This specialization at ENSAI prepares students for fascinating careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical laboratories, and public health.
Data Science for Economic & Health Modeling This ENSAI program offers a strong background in statistical engineering, economics, econometrics applied to territory dynamics and health, and will enable statistical engineers to evaluate both public policies and projects in the private sector.
Data Science & Data Engineering This ENSAI specialization combines computer science with statistics. Data Scientist students will become experts in Big Data, learn about systems architecture, networking, and cybersecurity in order to handle large volumes of data.
Data Science & Quantitative Marketing ENSAI engineering students in this specialization will gain a strong background in marketing culture (marketing mix, experience marketing, digital marketing, customer relationship management). This will enable students to extract and analyze data in order to understand and explain it, as well as predict purchasing behavior of products and services.
Data Science & Risk Management In order to assess and measure the risk associated to different financial operations, banks need the support of experts in banking regulations and advanced quantitative techniques. As risk and asset management are at the heart of this ENSAI specialization students will learn how to build quantitative tools to manage financial savings.
INTERNSHIPS
In order to graduate with an ENSAI engineering degree, all students must successfully complete three mandatory internships in France or abroad at the end of each academic year.
1st year: “operator” internship (1 to 3 months)
2nd year: statistics or data science internship (2 to 3 months)
3rd year: end of year internship (6 months)
A mandatory period of 4 weeks abroad must be validated either by doing an internship abroad or studying abroad (ex: Erasmus+).
DOUBLE DEGREES
At the end of 2nd year, engineering students can take advantages of a double degree agreement and continue their education at a partner school: ENSAE Paris, Sciences-Po Paris or INSA – Rennes.
Depending on career objectives, students can also obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Economics from the Paris-Dauphine University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Rennes 1.
In 3rd year students who are interested in a research career can do a parallel Master’s degree as an option (l’Option formation par la recherche) in one of the following programs:
In addition to the optional research track (la formation par la recherche) offered to 3rd year students, you can pursue a doctorate thesis at Mathematics, Information Sciences and Technologies (MathSTIC) Doctoral School and receive a PhD in Applied Mathematics. ENSAI is a partner school of the EDGE Doctoral School (Sciences Economiques et sciences De Gestion).
ADMISSION
Mathematics Competitive Exam – MP Students are admitted on the strength of their performance on the competitive entrance exams called “Concours commun INP “(CCINP).
Economic and Social Sciences Competitive Exam – B/L Students are selected from a pool of candidates who take exams from the inter-ENS exams. The written exams are the same exams as those in the economics and social sciences entrance exams at ENSAE Paris. The oral exam takes place at ENSAI.
Economic Management Competitive Exam – D2 These are the same exams as those for the economics examination with the “Economics and Management” option for ENS Cachan (ENS Cachan D2 preparatory classes), with specific coefficients, to which is added a specific oral examination in mathematics.
Transfer Students This method of admissions is open to students who have a Bachelor’s degree (Bac +3) or the first year of their Master’s degree (Bac+4), in the fields of Miashs (Mathematics and Computer Science applied to Human and Social Sciences), Applied Mathematics, Economic Sciences, Miage (Computer Science applied to Business Management) or an equivalent field of studies for students of foreign universities. Students are admitted to the 1st or 2nd year depending on their academic background.
Partner Schools Admission Students are selected based on their school records provided by ENSAI’s partner schools: ENSAE Dakar, ENSEA Abidjan, ISSEA Yaoundé, INSEA Rabat, ESSAI Tunis.
TUITION FEES
The yearly tuition fee for 2023/2024 is €2,650 for statistical engineering students. ENSAI bursary students do not have to pay tuition fees.
All engineering students, including those with a bursary, must pay the CVEC fee (about €95). More information in English can be found on Campus France.
The tuition fees for the Engineer Statistician program are set at 4150 € for international students who do not meet any of the following conditions:
– started their studies at ENSAI prior to the 2023-2024 academic year;
– be a national of one of the EU member states, of another state party to the agreement on the European Economic Area or of the Swiss Confederation;
– be a child, spouse or partner of a national of one of the EU member states;
– be a beneficiary of long-term resident status in an EU country or be a person whose father, mother or legal guardian has such status;
– be a beneficiary of a temporary residence permit who has had fiscal residency in France for at least two years;
– attend ENSAI as part of an inter-institutional agreement.
