First semester

Measuring Quality of Life

Objectifs

Explain the issues involved in validating a questionnaire to produce a measurement of a concept
Implement the construction of a concept measurement scale
Identify the different stages of questionnaire validation
Present the main psychometric theories (classical theory, Rasch measurement theory, item measurement theory, etc.) and the principles of statistical methods used to validate a questionnaire.
Analyze data from a psychometric questionnaire
Choose the appropriate statistical treatment according to the characteristics of the data and the objectives of the study
Interpret the measures obtained in each psychometric theory

Plan

Questionnaire construction
Key stages in questionnaire validation (validity, reliability, sensitivity to change)
The major psychometric theories: common points and specificities
Classical test theory (CTT)
Extension of CTT using structural equation models (SEM)
Rasch measurement theory (RMT)
Item response theory (IRT)
Validation methods adapted to each psychometric theory
Analysis of questionnaire data
Practical workshop: validating a questionnaire using CTT and RMT: application to the "Impact of cancer" questionnaire
