Finding a guarantor In order to rent an apartment, you will need to have a guarantor. If you do not have someone in France who can do this, the Visale from Action Logement is a free service that allows students, regardless of their nationality, to obtain a guarantor by simply providing some information online about their background and the housing being rented.
This service does not exempt students from taking out a renter’s insurance (assurance habitation) policy, which is mandatory for all renters. Taking out a policy is easy and can also be done online.
As part of ongoing improvements aimed at helping students, it is also possible to take advantage of other services from Action Logement or French government housing subsidies, which are available to all students. Once you have secured housing, you will then be able to take care of opening up internet, electric, gas, or other accounts.
